Fear for Your Life Playlist Cover

This was a project in my Elements and Principles class. The task was to design an album cover for a playlist that I created. The album / playlist cover is meant to visually convey and communicate the feeling of the playlist, the feelings represented in the selected music / songs of the playlist. Included in the development of the playlist, a time and place that the playlist should represent and express was decided on as well. Once the final playlist and its time and place was determined, the Creative Brief with the communication goal for the project was developed. This helped to fully flesh out and further explain the time and place of the playlist as well as to explain and further “connect” the time and place to the songs and music of the playlist itself. Within the Creative Brief, the communication goal ensured that there was a clear goal and vision for sketching ideas for the album / playlist cover. In the Creative Brief, the tracklist for the playlist was further modified and edited some and finalized. A mood board was also developed to explore visual ideas that could be used and/or could influence ideation in the sketching process.

Then, finally, thumbnail sketching could begin—to further experiment with visual ideas for conveying the time and place and overall feeling of the music and songs of the playlist. The communication goal was kept accessible during the sketching process to reference it and ensure that the ideas being sketched matched up with the communication goal that was determined. Then, once sketching was completed, 3 “best” ideas from sketching were chosen to further expand upon and explore. Next, the final idea to be pursued for the project was decided upon, and it was time to implement it for the album / playlist cover for the project. For me, I chose the medium of a photographic composite to achieve what I wanted to do. Once the final design was completed, it was time to print it for presentation; this also involved taking some “product”-style photographs to showcase my work.
