For the Love of Typography
If you know me, you probably know that I love typography. I love typography in any and all of its forms. Not only do I love typography, but I also love the aspects of it, including calligraphy and lettering. There was a time when I was obsessed with calligraphy / hand lettering. See some of those artworks in this blog post. Also see the Typography section of my main portfolio. But this blog post right here is about my love for typography as a whole. I love typography as an art form, like in calligraphy and lettering, but I also love even the technical aspects of it too. I think it’s amazing how, for example, the human eye can recognize when there’s bad kerning in a word. Just google “bad kerning,” and you’ll see some funny examples.
I also love working with typography in paragraph format, such as in books or magazines. See an example of some of my magazine work here. Also see an example of some of my rigid and expressive typography works at the bottom of this entry in my portfolio here. I truly love and appreciate even rigid formats of displaying words and letters. Letters themselves are beautiful and when they’re put together to create words, that’s beautiful too. That kind of leads into the beauty of calligraphy too. Calligraphy is its own sort of beauty and satisfaction, where you make marks as an artist and they turn out into beautiful letters and words. Any calligraphy enthusiasts out there know the kind of satisfaction I’m talking about. But my love for and obsession with calligraphy is another separate blog post from this one.
It’s truly amazing how different forms of letters can produce different kinds of feelings. Looking at all of the various fonts online is a really inspiring practice, even the fonts that aren’t as technically polished as others.
So yes, I just wanted to express my love of typography here in a blog post online. Thanks for reading, if you did read it, hope you liked it. Thanks.
